CREATE YOUR STEPS TO GOAL SETTING

Goal setting is a process that gives you direction on how to achieve what you want in life and there are steps to goal setting that you can use as a guide. You may choose to go where the flow takes you or you can take the driver seat and take control of your life. The choice is yours. There is a part of our brain called the RAS (Reticular Activating System). It is a tiny part of the base of your brain and it is considered as the gatekeeper of information that flows through the brain.

RAS filters incoming information notices things that are new or different situations or things that affect your feelings and brings your attention to relevant information that is already in the background but was just not getting altered by the RAS through the subconscious mind. You can program your RAS to achieve your goals. Just the act of writing your goals will turn your RAS switch on. It will alert you to focus on the relevant information and actions related to the goals you have written. Activating your RAS makes you see things or signs that are relevant to the goals you have set. When we see relevant visions that the RAS passes to our subconscious mind, it helps us take actions that will enable us to achieve your goals. Here are 5 simple actions steps that will help you set and manifest your goals.

1. ANALYZE YOUR SITUATION.

Before you start writing your goals, analyze your current situation. Describe the regrets that you have in your life, emotions, failures and what makes you happy. Take yourself out and imagine looking at two imaginary portraits – one for today which is your current situation and one blank portrait of the future that you are planning to have. Put all the pieces that you want in the future portrait until you have a complete picture. After the exercise, you will know what you should change and what goals to set.

2. WRITE YOUR GOALS

An effective way of writing goals is to follow the SMART goal setting formula. The acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time- Based. For each goal you have written, write actions steps that you will execute in order to achieve your goals. Once goals had been written, you need to review it daily. Schedule a good time to review it every day and don’t miss to execute your action steps.

The SMART acronym was first written down in November 1981 in Spokane, Washington. By George T. Doran, a consultant and former Director of Corporate Planning for Washington Water Power Company published a paper titled “There’s a S.M.A.R.T. Way to Write Management’s Goals and Objectives”.

3. TAKE POSITIVE ACTIONS DURING YOUR JOURNEY

Before you can take positive actions, you need to remove negative habits that can slow you down. These habits can be doubts, procrastination, fears, frustrations, anxiety, fears, regrets, resentments and other negative habits that can affect or block you with what you are trying to achieve. Release what you no longer need and what no longer serves you.

4. INTENSIFY GOAL SETTING WITH NEW HABITS

To accelerate your goal setting, practice habits that can that constantly activate your RAS. Write affirmations related to your goals and recite it every day. Make sure not to use negative language in your affirmations. Put up a vision board of your expected results and visualize the results. Meditation is a good practice to relax and use the time to visualize that you have already achieved your goals. Practice gratefulness. Be grateful for the things you have in your life. Don’t forget to say thanks.

5. SELF-CARE

Self-care is what we do to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. This includes anything that benefits your mind and body. Self-Care activities include eating a healthy diet, having regular medical and dental checkups, exercising, doing yoga to release stress or maintaining good relationships with your friends and family. Keep yourself away from toxic relationships and surround yourself with positive people.

So, activate your RAS and set your focus only on activities that will help you achieve your goals. As a free gift, you can download your Goals Worksheet here.
